| Review: | A small site that is a real community Okay, I have been on MD for several years. It is not the largest of sites and over the years, I have found it to be more of a place to socialize, than it is to find a date. There is a fairly small core of people who are on the site, though more are certainly welcome. The site is well designed, easy to use & you don't have to jump through a bunch of hoops to use it. Best of all it is free, not just to post an add, but to email, blog, post in forums, communicate... The downside is the size of the site. I live in a fairly large market (Charlotte, NC) and I am one of two active members on the site, from my city. There are less than 10 active female members, that are within 15 years of my age, who live in a 100 mile radius of Charlotte. (Over 4 million people live within that radius) So, is it an ideal site for dating? Not really, but it is a great place to mingle, chat and get to know some very interesting people from around the world. Now while that may not equate to finding your "soul mate", I certainly have enjoyed the friendships that I have developed over the years, on the site. |

It is a very sad fact that people who are online for their social life for more than a couple of hours a day are lonely. Some are disabled, some are very sick, some are mentally or socially or sexually disturbed. Whatever the reason, it cannot be healthy to spend most of one's life online in a virtual world, never meeting anyone but pretending these relationships matter. Most of your online "friends" would not even know if you died for a week or a month or a year. The people who sit in chatrooms year after year are the most pathetic. Especially when they have a family and friends but ignore them to live in a fantasy online world. I feel sorry for them the most. And they know who they are but cannot stop. What a waste of a life. |

I've been here on Myspace for just a short time. And I have to say that overall its been a pretty good experience. I like it much better here than ,say, Matchdoctor. I have friends that are on Matchdoctor that email and tell me to "tune in" for a look every once and a while. When I do I'm glad that I don't participate on that site anymore ( read the abuse thread to see what I mean). I don't know if these types of threads are allowed here. But I'm sure I will hear about it if its not. Sometimes what I read on Matchdoctor is just too good to keep to myself. I mean the people there, that are encouraged to stay, are truely mental. I saw a thread, for instance, on Nichiren Buddhism. Most of the post on this thread are in reference to other threads on Buddhism and a user thats no longer there. They are all very negative post about this person. Want to know what really happened ? Basically, it was a troll-fest of the highest order. Hard to read. And hard to understand why the moderators let it go on for so long. Seems like thats what the "band of trolls (bants)" do on that site. They send each other private emails and conspire to get people banned. Matchdoctor, true to its name, is suppose to be a dating site. Its hard to tell whether the "bants" looking for dates or not. If they are its secondary to the troll activities. Right now, for instance ( on the abuse thread) these professional trolls are trying to over rule the mods, and pressure them into pulling a blog they dont like. Now, the mods already made policy on this blog, its just fine. But these trolls will not take no for an answer. So then, rather than move on like an adult, they are acting like spoiled children that want their way, and refuse to let it go. Eventually, the mods will get tired of reading all the complaints and take some sort of action. Usually, the wrong action. You may have your difficulties with MYSPACE...you may not like this or the other thing. But at least here you can post your concerns and without having to fear the Mods giving the trolls the green light to harass you. Rumor has it, in fact, that the mods on Matchdoctor create fake profiles and join in on the harassment. Cyberbullying is encourage there as a means to silience opinions that aren't in line with the majority. In short, what I'm telling you from direct first hand experience...stay on MYSPACE. They at least take action against harassment and cyberbullies. |
